The Land

Welcome to Reflection Park

A sacred place of peace, reflection, and affirmation of the cycle of life.

Each feature is thoughtfully designed to honor the beauty of the land and the memories of those who rest here. Whatever brings you to discover Reflection Park’s offerings, we warmly welcome you.

A description of the features illustrated in the map above:

1. Stone: Entry gate piers are crafted from Western Maryland Flagstone sourced from local Patapsco Quarry, celebrating the natural beauty of our region.

2. Bicycle Racks: Visitors can park their bicycles here and walk the Park on foot.

3. Stormwater Management Basin: Designed to collect and treat rainwater and runoff, this basin and several others throughout the property are filled with native plants, including grasses, sedges, and flowering perennials, chosen for their ability to thrive in both wet and dry conditions.

4. Flower Cutting Garden (coming): A dedicated space where visitors can cut stems from native blooms to place on loved ones' graves.

5A. Shalom Burial Section A: Intended for Jewish families, with grave feet pointing toward Jerusalem.

6A. Peace Burial Section A: An inclusive space for all religious, spiritual, or non-affiliated traditions.

5B & 6B. Future Shalom and Peace burial sections

7A. Salaam Burial Section A: Intended for Muslim families, with grave sides facing Mecca.

7B. Future Salaam burial sections

8. Permeable parking: Decorative pavers serve as both parking areas and stormwater management features due to their permeable surface. Additionally, road shoulders have a narrow permeable strip that supports both parking and sustainable grass growth.

9. Meadow: Native meadow grasses will be planted in this area, showcasing vibrant flowers such as Butterfly Milkweed, Goldenrod, and Black-eyed Susans. These meadow grasses play a vital role in supporting pollinators and fireflies by providing food, shelter, and nesting sites.

10. Outdoor Meeting Area: This grassy open space surrounded by trees is a picturesque location for open houses and outdoor gatherings.

11. Community Garden (coming): The center of the circle will serve as a focal point for inspired caretakers to nurture the land in collaboration.

12. Trailhead: This marks the start of Reflection Trail, a one-mile natural surface hiking loop through the woods and along the stream. This trail has painted blaze markers and is rated easy to moderate with some uphill sections. (An image of the trail sign to be posted at the trailhead is shown below.)

13. The Little Windphone (coming): This disconnected phone in the woods is a symbolic space for one-way conversations with departed loved ones to privately share heartfelt messages and unspoken thoughts in a peaceful setting.

14. Forest Conservation Area: Nearly 15 acres are maintained in a Category I Forest Conservation easement, a legally protected zone intended to preserve existing forest cover and stream buffer.

15. Seating Area: A memorial picnic table made from solid cedar sits in a serene space where two streams meet, offering a quiet place for reflection.
